An analysis– Death, and Life: Why do my words matter?

— Our sister, Dawn Michelle Michals as again come up with another post that as garnered my interest: Death and Life: Why do my words matter? She drew initial inspiration for the piece from: Proverbs 18:21 KJV… then gave it additional life with a plethora of worthwhile verses —

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21 KJV)”

****

On the face of it, such words can lead us astray, if we do not take into consideration the nuances that the words embody. For we would be tempted to swim on the surface of the words, forgetting that it is in the depths that we find the abundance of life… and without care we are liable to drown…

Words have a physical, and a spiritual reality… physical when uttered… spiritual when encapsulated only in thought… just as man/woman, have a physical (or material), and a spiritual (or soul) presence… and the soul IS the man/woman… not the elements that makes up the body…

Likewise, the thoughts of the individual, IS the words of the individual… so strangling the thought before it leaves the mouth, does not release one from the evil inherent in the thought… spoken words are just a physical manifestation for all those who hear… an act of evil, or a discussion to commit evil is bad, but the thought precedes the act, so long before the doing, one shall pay the price for the thinking… The Christ said:

…whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. (Matthew 5:28 KJV)

Thus, such a one, does not need to shout… or even whisper his elicit intent in her ear… his thoughts had already paved the way for him to obtain his just deserts… also, what of the one who is unable to speak… is such a one able to surmise all manner of evil, but walk free at the End of the Day, because the words never left the mouth…? We should consider carefully, the spiritual content inherent in ALL the passages of the Bible, and not contentedly swim on the surface, or bask on the beach of ignorance in the perceived sunshine of wonderful words that warms us…

We must always remember… the spoken word as an effect on the hearer, the thought as an effect on the thinker… and just as the hearer cannot escape what was said… the thinker cannot escape his/her own thoughts… Thinking what was wrong, but keeping it bottled up within oneself is not praiseworthy, simply because it was never uttered…

Does one really hope to escape due to a technically…? By telling the Creator, that the instructions should have been more… clear…?

One should endeavor not to think what one would be ashamed of conversing openly with The Christ… and as a side effect of this, such thoughts will never leave one’s mouth… for whether it is spoken or not…

One “…shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21 KJV)”

Within the central heart of my writing... like the rainbow... I engender to reflect the multiple colours of man's nature... from the subtle inconsequential bland... through to a harsh biting grip, that can near tear at the soul of the eyes... yet when taken as a whole... can deliver I trust... the enigmatic elements of the rainbow... that seeks to soothe... and comfort... yet still find the illusive time... to tickle the funnybone...

  1. It’s just an observation, life being what it is, finite, hard, difficult, and wonderful at the same time, our chance to do as best as we can, despite our circumstances, weaknesses, and limitations imposed by changing circumstance, and character, different in all of us, humbly try to follow what I believe to be correct, and proper, and yes, at times I have felt blessed, and touched within my heart by that light, that it’s latent on every Human heart.

    1. The point of your observation is noted… the reality of one’s Spiritual circumstances, is bottled up in one’s own character, and how one treads the unknowns in life… I believe one cannot be too far wrong, if one took a line from Shakespeare’s play Hamlet as a mantra: ‘To thine own self be true…’ and walked firmly along the unsteady path of life… it is this that gives rise to the phenomenon that you characterized as (being) “…blessed, and touched within (one’s) heart by that light, that (is) latent on every Human heart.”

  2. It is difficult to live a life in this World where checks, and balances are expected, yet given mere lip service… in fact… I believe it would be difficult to live in any World where this is the case… however, it is this difficulty that one struggles with, that is the ultimate test on whether one is the real-Macoy, or just sprouting beatitudes…

  3. Purity it’s a state of being, that can be achieved with Spiritual practice, but it’s hard to live, in the World we live and remain untouched by it, unless you live on retreat, and only dedicated to Spiritual practice, Hindus talk about reaching a state of Grace named Kripa, or Eastern Orthodox monks. as in 2 Peter 1

    1. Policing one’s own thoughts is akin to driving with your eyes searching more for the police, than observing the traffic… but if one followed the code, and drove defensively… one would not even be noticed by the police…

  4. moriba, your words are so poetic, thoughtful and powerful.

Thank you so much for including me in this inspiration. That is all God. I get out of the way and let Him speak and share His truths with the world. I only want to get out of His way.

    This paragraph. Wow.

You always get me thinking and pondering more of His Word. Thank you for that!
